About This Vehicle

Here is a 2000 Subaru Sambar Classic EFI 2WD, finished in Polar White, imported from Japan and offered by Bucks Mini Trucks.

Powertrain on this Sambar Classic EFI 2WD

This Sambar Classic EFI 2WD carries the EN07V: a fuel-injected 660cc 4-cylinder engine. The EN07 is a genuine four-cylinder in a kei-sized package. Subaru kept building it long after almost everyone else had settled on three cylinders, and it is the single biggest reason Sambars have their own following. The 2000 Sambar Classic EFI 2WD came with an automatic gearbox, and that is what this one has.

Odometer and specification — Sambar Classic EFI 2WD

Odometer at listing is 86,806. That reading of 86,806 came to us without a unit attached, and we have left it exactly as found. Equipment recorded against this listing: power windows, power door locks and air conditioning.

Background: the Sambar Classic EFI 2WD

Japan's Akabou courier cooperative ran Sambars almost exclusively for three decades, on a factory type-approved version with its own valves, pistons, rods and crankshaft built to cover 200,000 kilometres of courier work — a fair indication of what the platform tolerates. Subaru gave the Sambar four-wheel independent suspension from the very first 1961 model, at a time when Japanese passenger cars mostly did without it — struts at the front, semi-trailing arms at the rear. The Sambar is the odd one out in the class and deliberately so: Subaru put the engine right at the back, behind the rear axle, and drove the rear wheels from there.

Import and ownership — 2000 Subaru Sambar Classic EFI 2WD

A closed body keeps the load dry and locked, which is the trade you make against the open bed of the truck version. A 2000 build date puts this one well past the 25-year federal import threshold.
