Two catalogues under one badge
Subaru's presence here splits cleanly in two, and the halves have almost nothing to do with each other. One is the Sambar in all its forms — flatbed truck, panel van, Dias passenger trim, tipping dump. The other is the road cars: Impreza WRX and STI, Legacy B4, the occasional Domingo. Just about the one thing they share is a taste for driving all four wheels.
Why the Sambar reads differently to its rivals
If you have been comparing kei trucks, the Subaru will look wrong at first: no engine under the seats, no leaf-sprung rear axle, and a four-cylinder rather than a three. That is deliberate and it goes back to 1961. The Sambar hub covers the generations, chassis codes and engine variants properly — worth reading before you compare one against a Hijet on price alone.
