About the 1994 Daihatsu Hijet

Daihatsu is Toyota's small-vehicle specialist and the Hijet is the product it has spent longest refining — sixty-plus years of iteration on a single idea, and it shows in how resolved the details are. Daihatsu sold the Hijet in an unusually wide spread of factory body styles — flatbed, PTO dump, panel van, canvas top, the extended-cab Jumbo from 1983 and the four-seat Deck Van from 1988 — because Japanese buyers specified them for particular trades. The Hijet has been in continuous production since November 1960, which makes it the oldest surviving kei nameplate — and in 2021 it took a Good Design Long Life Design Award, a first for Daihatsu.

The paperwork on this 1994 Hijet Truck

The odometer reads 43291 and the listing records a Japanese auction grade of 4/B. The source recorded no unit alongside that figure, so 43291 is reproduced exactly as stored rather than converted.

Mechanical specification of this Hijet Truck

The engine is recorded as the EF. The EF lives under the seats in a Hijet, which is why the bench tips forward and the service points face upward. Behind the White bodywork sits a 5-speed gearbox.

Owning a Hijet Truck

Four-wheel drive on a Hijet Truck was specified in Japan for field and forestry work, not for road holding. What you see is what we have: a White Hijet Truck on our lot, not a listing for a vehicle still in an auction hall. The asking price is $5,700.
