Trade-spec Hijets were overwhelmingly white; this one is recorded as White. Daihatsu supplies the Hijet to other makers for rebadging — Toyota since 2011, Subaru since 2012 — and it was licence-built abroad as the Piaggio Porter in Italy and the Asia Towner in Korea. Every four-wheel-drive Minicab from 1984 onward got twelve-inch front disc brakes and automatic free-wheeling front hubs as standard. Four-wheel-drive Hijets were aimed at farm and forestry work, which is where the sub-transmission low range and the differential locks in this family come from.
