The Hijet was built to be maintained by its owner rather than by a dealer: the seats tip forward, the engine is right there, and the service points are deliberately obvious. The Hijet Climber was the first kei vehicle offered with a limited-slip differential, and low-range sub-transmissions were a factory option across several generations. Every four-wheel-drive Minicab from 1984 onward got twelve-inch front disc brakes and automatic free-wheeling front hubs as standard.
