About This Vehicle
A 1995 Subaru Sambar in our current inventory, finished in Red, brought in out of the Japanese domestic market. Drive on this Sambar is four-wheel drive. We have it on file as stock number ytkQjU, chassis KS4243552. 53 photographs of this specific vehicle are on this listing.
Why the Sambar is different
Putting the engine under the bed was a deliberate load-carrying decision: on a kei truck the difference between empty and laden is enormous, and the engine acts as ballast over the driven axle when the bed is empty. The name comes from the sambar deer, in keeping with the rest of Subaru's naming of that era. On four-wheel-drive Sambars the drive runs forward from the rear-mounted engine, the exact reverse of the usual kei arrangement.
The paperwork on this 1995 Sambar
The odometer reads 25,000 mi and the listing records a condition of used. Interior colour is recorded as Grey. Fuel type on file is Gasoline.
Mechanical specification of this Sambar
The engine is recorded as the EN07C. By 1995 the four-cylinder kei engine had become a rarity, and the EN07 was the one still in volume production. Behind the Red bodywork sits a manual gearbox. Subaru was the last maker to keep a four-cylinder in the kei class, and the EN07 is that engine — four small cylinders instead of three larger ones, which is why a Sambar is so much less busy than a three-cylinder rival.
Owning a Sambar
In Japan a 1995 Sambar would have belonged to a shopkeeper, a small workshop or a farm, which is the sort of use it was engineered around. This 1995 Sambar spent its working life on Japanese registration, where a light goods vehicle faces its first statutory shaken inspection at two years and another every two years after that. It is listed at $10,647.
