About This Vehicle

This 1995 Subaru Sambar is a Japanese domestic-market vehicle we imported and are selling directly, finished in White. We have it on file as stock number 595, chassis KS4244044. There are 92 photographs of this exact vehicle on this page — not stock images of a similar one.

Background: the Sambar

The Sambar is the odd one out in the class and deliberately so: Subaru put the engine right at the back, behind the rear axle, and drove the rear wheels from there. Enthusiasts nicknamed the rear-engined Sambar the "agricultural Porsche", and the joke does real work: rear engine, rear drive, four cylinders, independent suspension all round. Subaru gave the Sambar four-wheel independent suspension from the very first 1961 model, at a time when Japanese passenger cars mostly did without it — struts at the front, semi-trailing arms at the rear.

1995 Subaru Sambar: engine, gearbox and running gear

It runs a 4-cylinder engine. The 1995 Sambar came with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and that is what this one has.

Recorded condition of this 1995 Sambar

It shows 38,250 mi on the clock, with a condition of used on file. Interior colour is recorded as Gray.

Where a Sambar earns its keep

A 1995 Sambar is old enough to be simple and new enough to be usable, which is most of why this generation gets exported rather than scrapped. It is on our books as 595, and what this listing records is what we hold on file for it. Price on this one is $9,104. Everything about a kei vehicle follows from the class rules — width, height, displacement and the shape of the cab are all downstream of the same regulation.
