About This Vehicle
This is a 1996 Subaru Sambar Van finished in Silver, one of the Japanese imports we currently have available.
Sambar Van: engine and drivetrain
This Sambar Van carries the EN07: a 660cc engine. The EN07 is a genuine four-cylinder in a kei-sized package. Subaru kept building it long after almost everyone else had settled on three cylinders, and it is the single biggest reason Sambars have their own following. The EN07 drives through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Specifics for this Sambar Van

Background: the Sambar Van
Subaru gave the Sambar four-wheel independent suspension from the very first 1961 model, at a time when Japanese passenger cars mostly did without it — struts at the front, semi-trailing arms at the rear. The cab seats 4, and with no engine underneath it there is no transmission tunnel or heat soak to work around. Putting the engine under the bed was a deliberate load-carrying decision: on a kei truck the difference between empty and laden is enormous, and the engine acts as ballast over the driven axle when the bed is empty.
Measured figures for this 1996 Sambar Van
It is listed at 330cm in length, 140cm in width and 191cm in height. The documents give a kerb weight of 790kg, a rated load capacity of 350kg and 8.82m³ of measured cargo volume. The Japanese paperwork lists this 1996 Sambar Van as Kei van, Vans with 4 seats.
