1996 Subaru Sambar#BUC04948

A 1996 Subaru Sambar in our current inventory, finished in White, brought in out of the Japanese domestic market. Drive on this Sambar is four-wheel drive. We have it on file as stock number p-bUqd.

The 1996 Sambar in context

Japan's Akabou courier cooperative ran Sambars almost exclusively for three decades, on a factory type-approved version with its own valves, pistons, rods and crankshaft built to cover 200,000 kilometres of courier work — a fair indication of what the platform tolerates. Putting the engine behind the rear axle loads the driven wheels, and that is a large part of why Sambars have the traction reputation they do. Sambars turn up in more colours than most kei trucks because Subaru sold plenty to private buyers as well as to trades; this one is White.

The mechanical side of this Sambar

The engine is recorded as the EN07. Subaru mounted the EN07 transversely under the floor at the very back, reached through a hatch in the bed and a cover in the rear bumper rather than from inside the cab. Drive reaches the road through a manual gearbox, four-wheel drive.

What a Sambar is good for

Plenty of buyers keep a Sambar looking exactly as it arrived; this one is White and presented as we received it. What you see is what we have: a White Sambar on our lot, not a listing for a vehicle still in an auction hall. It is listed at $8,127.
