Powertrain on this Minicab Van

This Minicab Van carries the 3G83: a 660cc engine. Mitsubishi's 3G83 is the workhorse three that powered the Minicab through most of its life, and it was tuned for pulling rather than for peak output. The 660cc engine drives through a 5-speed manual gearbox.

1993 Mitsubishi Minicab Van: the background

Mitsubishi launched the Minicab in 1966 and kept it in the range for decades, making it one of the older continuously-built kei trucks. Mitsubishi ended in-house Minicab production in 2014; the truck that replaced it is a rebadged Suzuki, so every Mitsubishi-built Minicab is now a closed population. At 830kg it is neither the lightest nor the heaviest in the class, which suits a truck built to be worked rather than admired.
