1993 Daihatsu Hijet Van: the background

Daihatsu sold the Hijet in an unusually wide spread of factory body styles — flatbed, PTO dump, panel van, canvas top, the extended-cab Jumbo from 1983 and the four-seat Deck Van from 1988 — because Japanese buyers specified them for particular trades. Full cab-over with the engine under the floor beneath the seats is why a vehicle only 330cm long can carry a bed this size — the truck has kept that layout throughout, even as the van moved to a semi-cab-over nose. 700kg empty means a Hijet can go places on soft ground that would leave ruts under anything heavier.

Square sides on a 330cm × 140cm footprint make the load area far more usable per cubic metre than the outside size suggests. We describe what is recorded and nothing more. If a figure is not on this page, it is because we do not have it on file. The asking price is $4,260.
