About This Vehicle
We have this 1999 Subaru Sambar EFI 4WD on the lot, finished in Polar White, imported direct from Japan. The chassis code on this one is TT2.
Why the Sambar EFI 4WD is different
Enthusiasts nicknamed the rear-engined Sambar the "agricultural Porsche", and the joke does real work: rear engine, rear drive, four cylinders, independent suspension all round. Subaru's rocker covers carry a cast "CLOVER4" badge with a four-leaf clover — a nod to the four-cylinder layout the company built its kei reputation on. Putting the engine behind the rear axle loads the driven wheels, and that is a large part of why Sambars have the traction reputation they do.
The mechanical side of this Sambar EFI 4WD
Under it is the EN07V, a fuel-injected 660cc 4-cylinder engine. Subaru mounted the EN07 transversely under the floor at the very back, reached through a hatch in the bed and a cover in the rear bumper rather than from inside the cab. Behind the Polar White bodywork sits a manual gearbox. On the specification it carries selectable 2WD / 4WD high and an extra-low crawler gear.
1999 Subaru Sambar EFI 4WD: recorded details
The odometer reads 54,125. The source recorded no unit alongside that figure, so 54,125 is reproduced exactly as stored rather than converted. On the specification sheet: an airbag, power steering and air conditioning.
What a Sambar EFI 4WD is good for
Four-wheel drive on a Sambar EFI 4WD was specified in Japan for field and forestry work, not for road holding. Built in 1999, this Sambar EFI 4WD is 27 years old and clears the 25-year threshold at which imported vehicles are exempt from US federal motor vehicle safety standards conformity. It is listed at $13,900.
