About the 2009 Suzuki Carry

Suzuki has built the Carry since 1961 — eleven generations, and the oldest nameplate the company still sells. It was Japan's best-selling truck nameplate for thirty-nine consecutive years from 1971, passing four million units by 2010. Suzuki has supplied the Carry to other manufacturers to badge as their own — Mazda since 1989, later Nissan and Mitsubishi — so the same underlying truck circulates under several names, which is another reason the parts supply runs deep. Suzuki was candid about who the Carry was for: individual shopkeepers, small workshops, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries. It has sold a dedicated farm grade with a differential lock continuously. Japanese buyers bought Carrys by the hundred thousand for farms, markets and building sites, so a 2009 example is the product of decades of unglamorous refinement.
