About This Vehicle
This 1998 Daihatsu Hijet Van is a Japanese domestic-market vehicle we imported and are selling directly, finished in Blue.
About the 1998 Daihatsu Hijet
The Hijet has been in continuous production since November 1960, which makes it the oldest surviving kei nameplate — and in 2021 it took a Good Design Long Life Design Award, a first for Daihatsu. The EF here belongs to a Daihatsu engine family that ran for well over a decade across the company's kei range. Daihatsu is Toyota's small-vehicle specialist and the Hijet is the product it has spent longest refining — sixty-plus years of iteration on a single idea, and it shows in how resolved the details are.
Hijet Van: size and capacity
Recorded dimensions are 330cm long, 140cm wide and 186cm tall. The documents give a kerb weight of 810kg, a rated load capacity of 350kg and 8.59m³ of measured cargo volume. Registration on this Hijet Van records 4 seats and a body type of Kei van, Vans.
1998 Daihatsu Hijet Van: engine, gearbox and running gear
Under it is the EF, a 660cc engine. EF variants ran the full range from twelve-valve twin-cam to simple single-cam versions, depending on what the vehicle was for. Behind the Blue bodywork sits a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Recorded condition of this 1998 Hijet Van
A 1998 vehicle showing 72900 km, recorded with a condition of used. The full model code on the Japanese paperwork is V-S100V.
Where a Hijet Van earns its keep
Hijet Vans were bought in Japan for delivery rounds, trade work and mobile services, and the body reflects exactly that brief. Built in 1998, this Hijet Van is 28 years old and clears the 25-year threshold at which imported vehicles are exempt from US federal motor vehicle safety standards conformity.
