2025 Daihatsu Hijet Regular: the background

Every four-wheel-drive Minicab from 1984 onward got twelve-inch front disc brakes and automatic free-wheeling front hubs as standard. Daihatsu sold the Hijet in an unusually wide spread of factory body styles — flatbed, PTO dump, panel van, canvas top, the extended-cab Jumbo from 1983 and the four-seat Deck Van from 1988 — because Japanese buyers specified them for particular trades. Four-wheel-drive Hijets were aimed at farm and forestry work, which is where the sub-transmission low range and the differential locks in this family come from.

Mechanical specification of this Hijet Regular

Power comes from the KF, a fuel-injected 660cc 3-cylinder unit. Daihatsu replaced the long-running EF with the KF, moving to twin cams and full electronic engine management. The KF drives through a 5-speed manual gearbox with a high/low range transfer case.

Owning a Hijet Regular

Four-wheel drive on a Hijet Regular was specified in Japan for field and forestry work, not for road holding. This 2025 Hijet Regular spent its working life on Japanese registration, where a light goods vehicle faces its first statutory shaken inspection at two years and another every two years after that. The asking price is $25,500.
