Minicab VX Special Edition 4WD: engine and drivetrain

This Minicab VX Special Edition 4WD carries the 3G83: a 660cc 3-cylinder engine. Mitsubishi's 3G83 is the workhorse three that powered the Minicab through most of its life, and it was tuned for pulling rather than for peak output. The 1997 Minicab VX Special Edition 4WD came with a manual gearbox, and that is what this one has. Listed drivetrain equipment includes selectable 2WD / 4WD high / 4WD low.

Background: the Minicab VX Special Edition 4WD

By 1997 the Minicab had been in production for thirty years, and the design had long since stopped needing to prove itself. Mitsubishi supplied the Minicab to Nissan to sell as the Clipper from 2003, so the same truck ran in Japan under two badges. Four-wheel-drive Minicabs were specified for exactly the conditions this one was built for — wet fields, gravel tracks and loading yards.
