About This Vehicle

On offer here is a 1991 Subaru Sambar 4WD, finished in Polar White, sourced and imported by Bucks Mini Trucks.

Powertrain on this Sambar 4WD

This Sambar 4WD carries the EN07C: a 660cc 4-cylinder engine. Because the EN07 is a four rather than a three, the firing intervals are closer together and the engine is noticeably less busy at speed — a difference you can hear from the driver's seat. The 1991 Sambar 4WD came with a manual gearbox, and that is what this one has. The trim designation records selectable 2WD / 4WD high and an extra-low crawler gear.

Odometer and specification — Sambar 4WD

Odometer at listing is 33,972. That reading of 33,972 came to us without a unit attached, and we have left it exactly as found.

The 1991 Sambar in context

Subaru's Sambar was the first ordinary kei truck and cab-van offered with four-wheel drive, from 1980. Every Subaru-built Sambar is a full cab-over, which is precisely how Subaru got a longer cargo bed than its rivals onto the same overall length. When production ended, the supercharged EN07 was the only supercharged engine left in any Japanese car, kei or otherwise — the Sambar was the last kei truck you could order with forced induction.

Import and ownership — 1991 Subaru Sambar 4WD

Farms, vineyards, ranches, grounds crews and building sites are where Sambar 4WDs end up in the US, for the same reasons they ended up there in Japan — Japanese sources describe the kei truck as a necessity for moving tools, crops and catch. A 1991 build date puts this one well past the 25-year federal import threshold. Price on this one is $9,995.
